For those of you new to Island Gypsy Hawaii, I started a blog series back in April, “Instagramming Maui: A to Z of My Island Life.” You can find a post that includes links to the entire series here, which I’ll be adding to on a regular basis. And here’s a link to my instagram site in case you’d like to stop by there.
“L” is for…
L is for La Comida.
La Comida is Spanish for “food.” This past weekend the family and I packed the car and headed to the other side of the island. When you live on an island going to the “other side” is considered long distance traveling, but when Mexican food is involved, it’s worth every mile.
I was invited to my first “TweetUp” by edible Hawaiian Islands, and the location was ideal: Sangrita Grill and Cantina. Ever since my Twitter feed began filling up with images from Sangrita’s opening night, I began dreaming of trying it out. Seeing as I’m from Texas originally, and was nearly a double-major in Spanish in college, Mexican food is kind of my specialty. Well, it’s at least something I love!
It can be difficult finding yummy Mexican food here on the island, unless of course you’re talking about in my kitchen. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised to find the menu at Sangrita’s varied and let me tell you, the food was muy ono! Very delicious!!! The environment is lovely as well, as we ate out on the lanai and enjoyed visiting with other social media peeps. If you’re looking for a Mexican food restaurant on the Westside, I recommend trying out Sangrita’s. (And no, I was not compensated for this post, although I wouldn’t mind being paid in tacos).
Even though I live Upcountry, their Taco Tuesday deal may have me jumping in the car despite the drive. Yummy!!!
Do you have a fave Mexican restaurant in Maui? Have you tried Sangrita Grill & Cantina yet? Mahalo to Dania Katz of edible Hawaiian Islands for the invitation…can’t wait for our next TweetUp.
With mucho aloha,
